Our Caribbean Immersion Project with Arimmage Goodiles was a collaboration to support a group of young people from Guadeloupe to be immersed in an English speaking project within the Caribbean. The group we hosted exchanges cultures, languages and experiences with local youths. During the ten days we hosted them they had the opportunity to learn about the culture in Aruba, how our country operates, visiting for example our museums to understand the industrial history through the tourism and carnival which we are now famous for, we visited WEB our water desalination plant and immersed the group in our traditions, history and current lifestyle. The group shared native dishes so we introduces Aruban Cuisine and had a lovely evening where we tasted the food and drinks from Guadeloupe. Participants (most from backgrounds with fewer opportunities, including a deaf and mute participant, unemployed youths, and those who have suffered difficulties due to the effects of COVID) had the chance to visit a number of our European Solidarity Corps Placements and some even spent a day working in them.
We hope this will be an annual event and we are ready to host back all the participants who joined us on an ESC activity when they are ready to join us.
The project “Euro Caribbean Immersion” was initiated and co founded by the “DRAJES” : Regional academic delegation for youth, commitment and sport (along with Arrimage Good’îles that co founded it and coordinated it). The Purpose was to give an opportunity to civic service volunteers (national volunteering) to experience a caribbean immersion.
