ABOUT THE PROJECT
Pa Fuera di Box is a one-year Solidarity Project (01.06.2025. – 31.05.2026.) delivered with young residents in the youth, +21 (Straf), and other detention departments at KIA, Aruba’s national prison. The concept of the project was to take raw, honest stories “out of the box” and outside the prison walls, creating a safe space for self-expression, communication, and collective skill-building for life after release.
The project was developed and delivered by a mixed group of young people, including residents at KIA and outside team members who joined the project on a regular basis. This collective approach ensured the project was not simply created for the residents of KIA, but shaped directly with them, from concept to delivery.
Through interactive workshops, participants spent the project learning the ins and outs of audio production, digital branding, and storytelling. A key aim was to challenge the stigma surrounding incarceration on the island and help the participants see their own potential to be creators and changemakers, rather than just individuals with a criminal record.
THE PRODUCTION TEAM & THE UNREGISTERED CORE
The core team brought together a diverse mix of creative talents. Alongside our officially registered team members, the project naturally evolved to include a dedicated group of boys inside the youth department. This additional core group stepped up with incredible commitment and raw energy, becoming an essential part of the production family.
THE PODCAST SETUP AND TECHNICAL SKILLS
As part of the project, the team transformed their space inside KIA into a fully functioning makeshift recording studio. The guys took charge of the entire production cycle – learning how to set up professional microphones, balance sound levels, and manage digital recorders. Tasks were distributed naturally: some focused on being the natural voices and hosts on the microphone, some drafted interview outlines, while others managed the technical soundboard.
FROM THE INSIDE TO SPOTIFY
Our outside team acted as the digital bridge, taking the raw files recorded inside the walls to handle the editing backlog and publish them to the world. We recorded around 40 tracks in total, completely blowing past our original goals, and new episodes will continue to drop every two weeks to keep the project’s momentum alive.

LOOKING TO THE FUTURE: CONTINUOUS IMPACT
Even though the official project timeline has concluded, Pa Fuera di Box is built to last. When residents participate in future international solidarity or Erasmus+ exchange projects with us, they will return to this very microphone to share their experiences, inspiring the next generation of youth inside.
