AMIS โ€“ Arts & Music in Inclusion Settings โ€“ ESC Team (May 2024)

About the project – A Journey of Inclusion and Creativity

The AMIS project was a unique two-week TEAM ESC initiative hosted and organised by Tur Cos Ta Posibel in Aruba. Designed for young adults aged 23โ€“29, this project funded by the European Solidarity Corps programme of the European Union, brought together international and local volunteers to create meaningful change within the local community while fostering a spirit of inclusion and collaboration.

AMIS focused on engaging with the youth wing of KIA, Aruba’s national prison, encouraging participants to use art, music, and creativity to connect with residents and inspire hope. Volunteers worked collaboratively to create a mural in the outdoor recreational area and record a CD featuring contributions from both ESC volunteers and KIA youth. The aim was to share these creations with youth prisons across Europe and the Caribbean, spreading messages of resilience and possibility.

Living and working together, the volunteers embraced communal life, shared cultural experiences, and practiced social inclusion. The project also introduced participants to the local language, Papiamento, alongside English, Spanish, and Dutch. AMIS proved that, as the name suggests, “Everything is Possible,” offering an enriching experience for all involved and leaving a lasting impact on the community.
