2026 projects – Sports coach in Point Blanche Prison and Youth Detention Facility MLC

The project

We will host volunteers at Point Blanche Prison and MLC (Miss Lalie Center), the youth detention and residential facility in Sint Maarten. Volunteers will have the opportunity to support sports, leisure, educational, and non-formal learning activities that contribute to the well-being, personal development, and social inclusion of inmates and young residents.

Volunteers will organize and facilitate a variety of activities, including sports sessions, recreational games, team-building activities, and other non-formal educational programmes. They will work with different groups within the institutions, encouraging participation, teamwork, communication, healthy lifestyles, self-confidence, and positive use of free time. Volunteers are also encouraged to bring their own ideas, skills, and sporting interests to create engaging activities that motivate participants and foster a positive environment.

The role offers a unique opportunity to gain experience in social inclusion, non-formal education, youth work, community development, and rehabilitation-focused activities. Volunteers will be involved in the daily activities of the project and will contribute to creating meaningful opportunities for learning, recreation, physical activity, and personal growth within both institutions.

For the project, volunteers need to be …

  • Interested in working with children and supporting their development
  • Patient, caring, and responsible
  • Creative and willing to organize games and workshops
  • Flexible and open-minded when working in different environments
  • Confident to communicate and interact with children, staff, and families
  • Motivated to learn and contribute to the local community
  • Positive, proactive, and willing to try new things with different groups of children
